Dealing With Stressful Deadlines

Anyway you choose to look at it, there are stressors involved in any type of deadlines that we are expected to meet, as this article explains ...

Deadlines are stressful since a high demand is placed on us to finish a task.

Deadline ... if you understand the difference in meaning you will see how the term deadline alone can cause stress. Deadline in one definition is a line drawn around a penitentiary that a prisoner avoids since he or she is risking their life by crossing the line. The prison guards are told to shoot any prisoner that attempts to cross that line and fails to halt.

Wow! However, deadlines in an author's world means the time subsequent to which, copy will not be accepted, until a certain issue of a publication has ended, or begun. So what makes this version of deadline frightening? First, we see that the process includes expectations, fear, such as a person not feeling competent to deliver the material requested, or from other system overloads, and decisions, since the person has to decide how to write in the area that is expected of them.

Isn't it funny how one little innocent definition can rip a person's heart out of their chest stressing to meet obligations? In other words, deadlines are a date set that requires the task to be turned in or completed. Anyway you choose to look at it, there are stressors involved. It depends on the person, but most of us feel stress when trying to meet a deadline. We are often unaware that while we are under stress we are hindering ourselves from completing a project early, since if information is available and experience and education is available most jobs can be done on time. In other words, you are wasting time stressing by hindering your ability to focus and finish your work.

Some of us stress over deadlines because we are thinking about the date tonight, the kids, spouse or other responsibilities or activities in our life. When you are working there is no time to worry about what has not happen yet, rather it is time to finish the job so you can relax when the next obligation or activity is ready for you. If you are wondering if you spouse is having an affair while trying to meet a deadline then you are only setting yourself up to overwhelming stress, which leads to disastrous consequences in most instances.

Clear your mind and do your job; the demand is not so bad if you think about it. You do this job every day or most days so it should be a common factor in your workplace. Deadlines are innocent tools that an employer, author, editor or publisher and even businesses use every day. It is common so it should feel comfortable rather than a threat. If you are feeling stressed to meet deadlines then you might want to take a moment and pull your thoughts together to determine the root of the problem that's causing you to stress out. Once you see why the stress exists, you might consider weeding out the problems, and making room in your busy schedule to meet your deadlines.

It is frustrating to be expected to do something, let alone being expected to do something by a specific time. When a person has a spontaneous nature, it is often more difficult to deal with deadlines. Your personality trained behaviors, decisions, thoughts, emotions, all play a part in stress and stressors. If you know where you stand, then it is often easier to move forward in life. You can find a way to minimize your problems by analyzing, comparing, deciding, and working to produce good results. The basic concept is that we all have the ability to make good and bad decisions. Good decisions result in less stress, while bad decisions increase stress and affect us and other people, either directly, or indirectly.

Therefore, if you have a deadline to meet, it's best to get your motor running and worry about everything else once the job at hand is completed.
