Gout Remedies - Traditional And Alternative Options
Gout is a form of arthritis that usually occurs in our joints and the areas surround this, mainly in our big toe. Gout is attributed to the excessive presence of uric acid in our bodies, which eventually build up in our joints. The build up of uric acid crystals causes swelling and inflammation resulting in excruciating pain for the individual.
Traditional Gout Remedies
Most medical practitioners recommend pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs as gout remedies for those who suffer from a bout of the diseases. Some of these medications are directly injected unto the affected area for faster results and alleviation of pain and swelling. Other gout remedies involve an operation to take away tophi or the excessive build up in the joints.
Other traditional gout remedies are to give medications that can reduce the build up of the uric acid and prevent it. The downside to these kinds of gout remedies is that some medications have adverse side effects that may result to other diseases or a weakened immune system.
Alternative Gout Remedies
Some herbal gout remedies include applications of tinctures and other concoctions on the affected area to relieve the pain or the swelling. Turmeric and ginger are among the leading herbal gout remedies. Soaking the affected area in a mixture of apple cider vinegar and rose hips can eventually reduce the levels of uric acid crystals in the area and flush it out.
Other alternative gout remedies include eating cherries, berries and grapes as well as drinking cups of buchu tea. Increasing your water or fluid intake accordingly will help flush out the excess uric acid to avoid build up and aid you liver and kidneys in functioning well.
Other than the outlined gout remedies above, going on a diet low in purines can help immensely in reducing the uric acid levels in our bodies to a reasonable level. Traditional medicine and alternative medicine practitioners agree that the food we consume as well as some beverages are the main sources of purines. Keeping purine rich foods at a minimum level and exercising regularly will help reduce the level of purine and also flush out excess uric acid through sweat.
Gout remedies need not be through chemical based medication but in some cases of excessive pain and swelling, we may have to turn to traditional medicine to solve our pain immediately. Cases of too much build up may also need an operation to help solve the problem.
